NOVEMBER 2009
It has certainly been a busy spring at
the wildlife estate with quite a few new additions to the
farm inn family.
We welcomed the
arrival of 2 healthy female leopard cubs born to our
leopard pair ‘chai and mulan’.
We can honestly say we have never seen so many spots before! We
were literally seeing spots before our eyes! The pair have
been named ‘ming & mei’ and are growing
at a furious rate. This is mulan’s first litter
and we will keep you updated with more pic’s.
We also welcomed
2 robust striped hyena’s,
1 female and 1 male. They have been named ‘ludger’ and ‘shenzi’ and spend the best part of their day eating and sleeping!
Our young white
lion cub ‘captain
jack’ is also thriving and is going to be a big handsome
fellow when mature. He now looks less like a polar bear! Our
young lioness ‘lady’ is also growing up and
is going to be quite a beauty. She spends most of
her day chatting loudly to her best friend ‘jess’ and
just to let you know - ‘jess’ is a dog.
Sadly, we recently
lost a most precious boy, the young male cheetah ‘tiny
tim’. ‘tim’ was
born a fraction of the size he should have been and against
all odds survived along with his much bigger sister diana. Earlier
this year he became quite ill and was rushed off to the
clinic. Our wonderful vet came to the rescue as always,
but did warn us the prognosis was not great and he would
have to be on medication. Alas, during a very bad
storm, ‘tim’ had another fit and passed away. He
will be sorely missed and we know he is with our ‘duma’,
hunting on the great savannah in the sky.
On a much happier
note sheba’s four
cubs are thriving and growing into handsome adolescents
and they get themselves into all sorts of mischief. Sheba
is a wonderful mother and she allows rose to interact freely
with the cubs. To witness this is sublime. She herself
is keen to climb into rose’s lap at any opportunity. This
majestic creature is unique in every way and we feel truly
blessed that she is part of our family.
We wish you a very
happy christmas and a prosperous new year and who knows ‘santa’ may
bring some more cubs for christmas.
