ABOUT THE FARM INN COUNTRY HOTEL

Pedro & Rose Michaletos bought the original property in 1979 to breed Arabian Horses. At that time there was just a single storey thatched house, no road, no power and no telephone. Pedro brought the Palm Trees from the Hellenic Hotel (which Pedro previously owned in Central Pretoria) and planted them in Farm Inn soil. His thoughts were “if the trees grow, then we’ll grow”

It took three years for Pedro to get permission to open a small inn, incorporating the original house & converting the stables which he had built. Disaster hit in 1984 when a major fire destroyed most of the 10 bedroom guesthouse. Reconstruction started immediately and a year later the Farm Inn reopened.

The Farm Inn has grown over the years to its current size – the original 21 hectares have been increased to 108 hectares (267 acres). There are now 83 bedrooms, 17 function venues, 2 chapels, 3 boma’s and a “Bosberaad” venue in between the Animal enclosures. The a la carte Restaurant has won numerous prizes.

A refurbishing program is constantly in action by Rose to upgrade and improve the Farm Inn’s facilities & the emphasis is on making the Hotel wheelchair friendly.

There are over 100 staff employed at the Farm Inn, with extra staff brought in for functions. Pedro and Rose have a ‘hands on’ approach and involve themselves in every aspect of the Hotel. Rose ensures that all the housekeeping issues run smoothly whilst Pedro is always available for discussion about the history of the hotel and particularly his passion – the Wildlife Program.

The Farm Inn is fully walled and fenced to ensure a secure and comfortable stay with safe parking.

Many of our customers stay with us again and again. The Hotel is close to the Menlyn Park shopping and entertainment centre and next door to Silverlakes Golf Club. Plans for the future include a full safari park with all the Big 5, a larger pool and tennis courts.
